Ruud spent around 10 years serving as a Lead Engineer and Project Manager in the field of machine manufacturing. In this capacity, he oversaw the development of CNC machines that were distributed internationally. Following this, he transitioned to employment with an automotive company specializing in producing roofs for major OEMs such as Mercedes, Porsche, and VAG. In his role as an Application Engineer, he collaborated closely with both the Chinese and American markets.
Following his pursuit of this economically driven career path, since 2015 Ruud has been actively involved as a lecturer in Material Science within the Mechanical Engineering department and as a researcher at Zuyd University of Applied Science. He has also played significant roles in diverse research groups and projects. These include positions at Limburg Meet as a Business Developer, at Data Intelligence focusing on motion detection using algorithms and IMU data, and at Circular Product Engineering where his research delves into integrating circular strategies in product development. Furthermore, he has participated in founding several startups, including one in the realm of AI and movement detection.
These pursuits align with his PhD research titled “Developing Circular Sport Products: A Design Methodology for Engineering Practice,” where he merges his passion for sports with the responsible development of products. The main focus will be on examining case studies for the circular assessment of sports equipment and its integration into a digital passport.
